We're here to build more just and resilient communities.
Impact is our north star. We help steady-state programs improve and net-new programs innovate.
In building an equitable product, we are here to be as helpful as we can — to both individuals that are applying for assistance and the individuals that are administering it — which means being extremely mindful of the realities our users are facing.
Leading with empathy means leading with respect, and creating a product that centers around driving equitable outcomes.
Beyond that, we need to be respectful of one another — our own teammates — and practice empathy internally. We need to provide space for our teammates to speak their truth without fear of judgment, shame, retaliation, or disrespect. Creating an internal culture of empowerment to do so makes us more empathetic to one another, more effective, and keeps us accountable to our mission.
Our mission isn’t a simple or easy one, but it’s why we're here. And success at Beam means measuring ourselves against the impact of that mission.
That means being deliberate and intentional in the goals we are setting, the product we are building, and the ways in which we interact with each other. Having the best intentions is important, but the impact those efforts have matters much more. Embracing change quickly along the way if our outcome is different from what we intended is key.
The issue we’re solving for is massive. In tackling a problem of such scope, we need to be thoughtful on not just how we affect individuals, but also how we tackle huge, complex problems. That means we must find impactful and meaningful solutions to our issues at hand - both big and small.
And we must be creative in our solutioning, starting with listening to our users and partners, saying “yes,” and moving quickly to ship product that solves the problem.
As we offer a perspective on the world we wish to create, we need to be nimble and adaptable, and find solutions quickly when faced with obstacles.
At Beam, we are a collective of motivated, driven individuals. As a small but mighty company, each one of us holds a unique piece of the puzzle in our roles. It’s on us to take ownership and take pride in our work, because each role matters. We take our work seriously, because we know that the success of the company depends on it.
We practice stewardship individually and as a collective whole: by being leaders in our space, taking pride in the work we do, taking accountability, and pushing solutions that make a substantial difference in the cash assistance space. We can take pride, solace, and joy in the fact that our day-to-day work is meaningful and can tremendously impact the lives of countless individuals for the better.
Solving hard problems starts with understanding the problem space, our competitors, our work, and our vision. We are an organization with a changemaking agenda - which requires proactive advocacy and action, which can only be grounded in subject matter expertise.
As we practice constant learning and acquire expertise, we build confidence in representing Beam both internally and externally, and advocate for Beam's growth and success.
